John T. Deacon
I am a PhD Student in Political Science at the University of California, Irvine.
My research focuses on the politics of nuclear weapons and Chinese foreign policy. I am currently researching the political drivers of the ongoing expansion and modernization of nuclear weapons in China, as well as the government's overall aims in nuclear weapons policy. My research attempts to understand the history of China's shift to a more assertive international posture.
I am also learning Mandarin Chinese to develop a comprehensive understanding of Chinese policy objectives.
I received my BA in Political Science in 2015 from the State University of New York at Geneseo. After working in the healthcare and corporate compliance industries, I decided to return to academia to resume my study of political science and international relations. In 2020, I received my MA in Political Science from California State University, Los Angeles.
When I'm not writing, I'm often watching films, trying new cocktails, or reading a book with a cat on my lap.
